NOTES OF HFCYCLISTS MEETING Held at the home of Phil Lamond
and Sophie Gisbert PRESENT: Sophie Gisbert, Phil Lamond, John Griffiths, Gwen Cook, Susie Gretz, Julie Askins, Paul Saunderson, Bjorn Volk, Mihali APOLOGIES: Henrietta Bewley, David Bays,
LBHF thinks that it is just fine to expect cyclists to get off the carriageway through a busy Toucan crossing with pedestrians waiting at the kerb, and a bus bearing down on the cyclist. There is a difference between a Toucan Crossing, which is for cyclists on the footway area to cross to the opposite footway area, and a facility to transfer cyclists from the carriageway safely to the footway area. Drawings for both of these
distinct types of facility can be found at At pages 197 / 198 there are
the drawings on how a facility may be designed for transferring cyclists
from the carriageway to a shared use area, and vice versa. Drawings for a Toucan crossing are shown at CCE/C12 and CCE/C13 on pages 208 /209 [Full London Cycling Design
Standards can be found from from LBHF will review how the scheme works a few weeks after it has been implemented. Paul said the process could be called "Design by Death". Let us hope not. Westfield is due to open Thursday 30 October.
Ravenscourt Park will be a hub for rides coming in from other parts before setting off for Central London. We will lead a ride from Ravenscourt Park to the meeting point around the Mall, and back again. Susie, Julie, Mihali, Paul, Phil, Sophie, John will all be involved. Gwen hopes to have an Agewell group ride. More details on times, exact meeting point etc in short while. We will probably leave Ravenscourt Park around 11am. Meanwhile if you want to come
on the ride please register as soon as possible at Bjorn will be on a LBHF stand at Ravenscourt Park
At the Greenfest Susie produced
a map and collected responses of where there were problem areas. At the last meeting we said we would do some things, but as people have been away or distracted these have not happened. Hammersmith Bridge stood out as a real problem, and John will contact some people in LBHF about the possibility of a 20mph limit on the bridge. Following the notes of our last meeting Cllr Eugenie White pointed out that some works are planned for the bridge, and now would be a good time to make this suggestion. Susie would collate the other problem places. Any one wishing to add to the list please email to susie@gretz.abelgratis.com . Gwen said she would send in some points. CYCLE PARKING Gwen has requested more cycle parking for the market area of North End rd. 5 new stands are to be put in soon. Gwen had been hoping for more and there is a requirement and space for many more. John suggested that a car parking space could be transferred to many cycle parking spaces at the end of one of the side roads. Does the Council really wish to reduce congestion? Dream on.
