BIKE REPAIR WORKSHOP

Sarah French, from the K&C LCC local group and who works as a cycling instructor, talked about ideas she has for starting a bike repair workshop. Sarah is looking for funding to pay for mechanics, including herself, and has just missed the latest deadline for the LCC community grants.

She perhaps has offers of free space, one associated with RBKC town hall, one connected with a church in Fulham. A project at the latter might also involve homeless people, which would be another route to getting grants. Gordon Keenan's Pedal Power might help. [Sarah also suggested that Gordon might donate one of his bikes for a draw at the GREENFEST]

We mentioned that at one point LBHF had showed some interest in promoting a cycle maintenance workshop. Hackney LCC runs a workshop every two weeks, which is run completely by volunteers.

RIDES, EVENTS, ETC?

Sunday 31 May. Susie Gretz will organise a ride along the canal going to Horsenden Hill and points west. Meet at her place, as above, at 10.30am for coffee before setting off. Bring picnic. More later.

Shirin Khan has ideas for a 3 day trip to Amsterdam involving some cycling at the end of June. Shirin will send an email to group when her ideas are more settled. If you wish to discuss this with her - shirinkhan[at]hotmail.co.uk

Angie White is planning a weekend jaunt to Bath along the Thames and Avon and Kennet canal during the summer over a weekend if any other member is interested.

We talked about day trips with bikes by train to Kent. Sharon and Susie to look into.

GREENFEST 2009
The GREENFEST is to promote cycling and environmental groups, as well as having a great party. A group has been organising the overall structure.

How will hfcyclists optimise spreading our message and recruiting as many people as possible to our cause? We plan to have people on our stand who will talk about cycling and what our group does. And asking cyclists what problems they have.

We want to collect email addresses from as many people as possible for our group, and for other local LCC groups. And we should encourage people to join the LCC, which involves paying.

We expect to have a free draw for a bike which will draw people to the stand.

Most of the people here tonight will help on the day, and we have several others lined up. If you wish to be involved please contact John as below.

The event is in Furnivall Gardens, by the river, on Sunday June 14, 1pm to 5pm. See www.greenfest.org.uk.

John had brought GREENFEST postcards and posters along to the meeting. If you can help distribute any please contact John.

PLANNING FOR OUR AGM
This will be on Tuesday 2 June in the info centre, Hammersmith Broadway centre. 7.15pm for 7.30pm .We discussed whether we wanted a guest. John will contact some of those discussed.

NEWSPAPERS
We had a very good article about us in the H&F News in the 21 April edition. Thanks to David for instigating this. David will contact the editor who should be back from his holidays by now about the possibility of a regular cycling column.

We are expecting an article promoting the GREENFEST in the 2nd June edition of the H&F News and John will remind some people about this.

EXPENSES
Susie had expenses of £25.12 for refreshments.
