NOTES OF HFCYCLISTS MEETING
Tuesday 3 May 2005 , 7.30pm in the Info Centre

PRESENT: John Griffiths, Louanne Tranchell, Jonathan Gurney.

APOLOGIES: Mo Morgan, Alex Forrest, John Gilbert, Rob Cope, John Smits, Alan Rowden, Chris Tranchell, Bill Ogden, Paul Alexander.

WHAT IS HAPPENING AT SBG -

The right hand feeder lane to the Advanced Stop Lane has been moved to the left hand side. Someone somewhere listens to us - perhaps Colin Glendenning in the Highways dept. Hurray.

And the toilet block which makes such an interesting image with the cycle crossing leading straight into it? Perhaps it will be with us until the end of the year at least.

LIAISON MEETING -

This meeting with Chris Bainbridge will be at 5.45pm on Tuesday 10 May at the new Emerald Centre, Beadon Road. John Griffiths, Louanne, and John Smits are expected to go along. If you wish to come along please contact John Griffiths. These meetings are very useful contact with the Council.

KING STREET IMPROVEMENTS /MODIFICATIONS /REDECORATIONS

There appears to be no real public consultation on this as it is considered as merely redecoration / upgrading.

Phase 1 is expected to start next week. This is the first stretch going from the Gyratory up to Leamore street. The crossing by Pret-a-manger will be removed and put further down the road. Will they have barriers to stop people crossing elsewhere? It will be very tempting to cross when the traffic is stopped at lights.

This planning is driven by TfL's Network Management thinking, where the priority is to get traffic off the gyratory.

The leaflet says "It is the council's vision that with these streetscape improvements our streets will be made more pleasant and safe."

Hounslow high street is an example of a people friendly zone. It has no cars.

John will write to Phil Nicholls asking about barriers, pressing for a 20mph speed limit, and whether the crossing near the gyratory can be made wider, as it is planned to be part of a cycle route, and will carry more people than before.
