See http://www.goskyride.com/city/details.aspx?eventid=309&cityid=12

Central London Skyride is on Sunday 5 September.

CYCLING CHALLENGE
The LCC has signed up for TfL's London Cycle Challenge. The challenge is for organizations to clock up as many miles as possible throughout June. You log on and enter the number of miles cycled per day. There is no reason why this should be limited to the office as the LCC consists first and foremost of local groups. So it would be great if local activists could sign up too.

Please follow this link [copy and paste if necessary] http://cyclechallenge.tfl.gov.uk/join_one.php?team=350 for activists to sign up.

Part of the form is what's called a tag, which can determine a particular department of an organization. You can enter hfcyclists here.

Organisations are grouped into those with 2 10, 11-50, 51-100, 100+ entrants

BEAT THE THIEF
LCC is having a campaign to reduce cycle theft. John W recommended watching the video clip http://www.lcc.org.uk/ . LCC have some tags to give out to cyclists or hang on their bikes. Marta will pick some up with other LCC material for the GREENFEST, or they may be delivered to us before that.

People needed to go on tagging sprees. Please form little tagging bands if you wish.

DU CANE RD

Road safety improvements from Slobodan Vuckovic, Project Engineer at LBHF

The Council has secured funding to review the effectiveness of the existing traffic calming measures along Du Cane Road, as well as to promote sustainable modes of transport by providing safe cycle routes and a pedestrian friendly environment.

Prior to any scheme design we would like to hear from you, residents and businesses in the area and users of the road, whether on foot, bicycle, bus or car. What do you consider that is needed to be addressed and what else could be done or improved to make Du Cane Road safer for residents and road users? Your comments, concerns and suggestions will be considered as part of any proposed design subject to available funds.

Send Slobodan an email with your thoughts to slobodan.vuckovic@lbhf.gov.uk, and copy John Griffiths in using email below. Slobodan on 020 8753 3360

OTHER LBHF PROJECTS

John G spoke to Chris Bainbridge and others at LBHF before the meeting about progress on various matters.

Matt Veale reported that work on a dropped kerb at Shepherds Bush Green should be going ahead in couple of months.

Kylee Simpson on Hammersmith Bridge Approach. There will be a safety audit on the present scheme in a couple of weeks time.
Kylee has thoughts about putting in a dropped kerb going towards the bridge near Worlidge rd.
For cyclists coming from the bridge hatching before the refuge of the crossing by Worlidge rd would perhaps be useful for confident cyclists turning right into Worlidge rd. A dropped kerb to get cyclists onto the pavement before the crossing would be useful for less confident cyclists. But space on the pavement there is very restricted.

Matt Veale says the dropped kerb at Westfield should be happening in a couple months.

Chris is having a meeting soon with TfL discussing the Cycling Superhighway 9 from Hounslow to Hyde Park. The route of this may be along King Street and Chiswick High rd rather than the A4. It has been put back from 2012 to 2015

Later this year LBHF have to produce a LIP, a Local Implementation Plan. This is how LBHF will put the Mayor's Transport Strategy into practice in the borough. We shall be consulted upon this. This will be something meaty do discuss at the time.

REFRESHMENTS AT MEETINGS
Some were much exercised about refreshments at meetings.
Some would like to put the refreshments in the hands of professional caterers.
Some had food allergies, and only food acceptable to all was suggested.
There were suggestions that to reduce waste any left over part finished orange juice cartons should be kept until the next meeting.
Some thought we should not have alcohol, and those wishing to drink should bring their own.
Some thought it was an inappropriate way to spend taxpayers money, but the financing comes from money paid by LCC members in membership fees, part of which is forwarded to local groups. It would be good if everyone coming to meetings joined the LCC, and then there would be no guilt feelings

Some were very grateful for the refreshments and very pleased to have them, and for the effort made in buying the refreshments and serving it, especially if the visitor came straight from work.

If the energy and time put into such discussions was put into discussing cycling matters we might become more effective as a group.

EXPENSES
John G had expenses of £25.96 for tonight's refreshments

DATE / PLACE OF NEXT MEETING / AGM
The AGM will take place 7.15pm for 7.30pm, on MONDAY 5 July, at Info centre in Hammersmith Broadway. 7.15pm for 7.30pm, to be followed by a short monthly meeting if needed.
