1 Spending our present grant money, 500 pounds by Easter. Eric from Cycle Training was punctured badly on route and could not join us. [we were going
to discuss how he could help with an event]

We noted that the Council are putting on a sport festival from Saturday 23rd March through to Easter
Monday 1st April. [Boatrace on Saturday 30 March.] Peter Savage the Mayors assistant is the contact and john will contact to see how some activity can
fit in. Aiming at some group promotion with cycle training for kids. Also contact Sue Ingham who knows about schools.

2 Future grant application from the Community Chest. Were hoping to have on-road cycle training, but this grant has been changed to be for Capital
expenses only. Decided to apply for laser printer, leaflet dispensers (1/3 A4 upright), cycle trailer.

3 Car Free Day, Sunday 22 September 2002. Suggested locations
a) Hammersmith Bridge - lovely location, near towpath, pubs, Furnival Gdns.
Advantage that neighbouring groups may join us. We ourselves do not have the clout to deliver much and there must be a groundswell of energy to make it work.
b) Hammersmith Grove, Not on bus routes and has nice shops.
c) Parsons Green Lane, ditto and has Green
d) or Munster Rd, ditto less Green.

Mike Cartwright and Sally Powell will need to be convinced to convince rk to make it happen.

4 Scrutiny Panel meeting, road safety item postponed from 16 January to 25 March. John has already put the following question:

We are pleased that dangers for cyclists in Emlyn rd / Larden rd and on the Olympia bridge have been rectified. However, these were originally put in by
Highways Engineers.
Also I have spoken to a senior Highways engineer who was not fully aware of significance the 10% target modal share for cycling in the Interim Transport Plan.

Following from these points, what steps will be taken to improve

a) the awareness of cycling issues amongst staff in the Highways Dept?
b) communication both ways between the Highways Dept and the Transport Policy Group?

These issues affect the design and implementation of a safer road system.

5 The 10% target modal share for cycling is for 2012. Plus 39% for pedestrians. Add a few going by bus and tube and you only have a few % left for cars. ? So why are planners saying there is no room for cyclists in Shepherds Bush Green.

6 Jane has already managed to get planning agreed for a pelican across Goldhawk rd at Sycamore rd. It will not be constructed until money is available in a few months time. Jane now thinks it preferable to have a toucan [two can - cycle and pedestrian crossing], with contraflow cycling in Sycamore rd and cycle lane on pavement on North side of Goldhawk rd linking to St Stephens rd. This would avoid mess at Brackenbury rd. John will look at it with Jane and hopefully support putting forward a case for this.

7 How to get more people actively involved. John has produced a useable leaflet. If you wish to print this off and hand to any passing cyclist you may wish to contact, please do. It will be refined a bit due course.
